As we wrap up our series on healthy boundaries, Jesus summarizes the keys brought up by several of our special guests and then invites us into recognizing our heart's posture in allowing Jesus to have our complete devotion through a NEW BOUNDARY. She dives into, what she coins, "My YES to Jesus" that allows us to exchange our tendency to solve our own problems, be our own "source," etc... for allowing Jesus to be our LIGHT and LIFE (see John 1:3-5, 9). This exchange requires we acknowledge and let Him be our fountain, our source, of ALL that we have need of both in our lives at school and at home. Lastly Jesica challenges us to stay in constant communion throughout the day with Jesus-- seeing Him WITH us-- and to "Call to me for I will tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" (Jeremiah 33:3) knowing He will be faithful to provide what we need in a moments notice. We can all struggle at times with feeling the tug to work too much... even to the point of allowing ourselves to rest only as a reward for "finishing," but we're reminded that's not a habit God designed us to have. One of the spiritual Mamas of the Christian Educators movement, Elizabeth Schmus, shares with us her own journey of finding rest in "work" by instilling the practice of Sabbath and holding tight to her weekly time in the Word of God. The Lord is inviting us to commune with Him through rest-- resting on the truth of His Word not only by helping us hold onto promises during trials, but in more peaceful seasons as well. Making a Sabbath rest part of our weekly routine can literally revolutionize the way we prepare our hearts and minds to live on mission with Jesus. In the space of rest we're able to reset with Father God in the unique ways He made us-- through play, physically resting, being alone, creating, or gathering with friends and family. The God of the Sabbath is inviting us to join Him in resting from our work one whole day a week. One of the best ways we can build healthy boundaries is by setting ourselves up for success with a regular time with Jesus and dive into the Word of God. In Part 2 of Healthy Boundaries Jill Miller from Teacher Be Still reviews the power of learning to hear God's voice through connecting with His Word-- learning to discern His voice and follow His leading. She then leads us into a series of practical boundaries we can set for ourselves to make sure we're taking a Sabbath, keeping ourselves away from correcting EVERY bit of student work, bringing home work every night, and being so consumed with our "to do" lists that we don't put our relationships with others first. Making sure we have health in our own families at home requires that we don't work all afternoon, or evening, and that taking time to be present is key. Jill encourages us to use her 3 part power to do list to hone in on the most important tasks for the day, and only adding to it if we can successfully accomplish any additional items. She also encourages us to celebrate finishing items... "because our "to do" list will never be done... and that is ok!" Thank you, Jesus, that you help us say, "no!" is another important boundary that has to be practiced and followed to mean anything to us or those around us. To wrap up our self-care podcast series this week Jesica Glover invites us into the center of one of her Christian teacher community conversations-- and this week it happens to be with 2nd Grade teacher Bekah Hutchinson from SW Washington. Bekah invites us into her own experience of truth-telling which really hit home this summer when she attended a Christian Educators Leadership retreat where Jamie and Donna Winship invited a group of teachers into some identity exchange experiences with Jesus. This powerful time of encounter has continued for her as she's allowed the Lord to show her who he sees her to be and to allow herself to tell the truth in response-- often called confession. The process, for Bekah (and Jesica), has been powerfully freeing and has proven to minister deeply to their hearts, thus deemed a good took for self-care. Bekah even says, "I think truthtelling the highest form of selfcare." In the middle of our "Teacher Self-Talk" podcast unit former middle school teacher gone counselor, Jessica Klicka, shares some tips and tricks for keeping ourselves well inside and out. As we all know teachers can be notorious for putting off their own needs for those of others, but is this really the right thing to do in the long run? Ignoring the signs our bodies are sending us can lead to some serious health issues all around... so we're needing to tune into the signs our bodies are sending us and regularly checking in with our emotional state to keep us in the healthy lane. Let's pause to examine some background beliefs we need in order to live as Victors in Christ (instead of victims) and carry the Kingdom into our schools. Our aim is to live each day with a Kingdom Educator Mindset: 1. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5), so we can step upward into our true identity as sons and daughters of the King. 2. Recognize that you're commissioned to carry His miracle working power into your school. 3. How do I respond when I see kids acting abnormally and I think it's demonically derived, not just "normal" spectrum behavior? How do I respond when weird things-- even phenomena happen on my campus? At its simplest roots we walk onto our job sites knowing Jesus has already won over sin death and the grave and because we're seated with Him in heavenly places we have indeed won too. In fact, we have the robes of righteousness to prove it. We are seated above all principalities powers and dominion and that Jesus has won over sin, sickness, and the grave. The enemy is under His feet and if I am seated in Him, which is what Ephesians 2:6 says, then the enemy is under my feet, too. The enemy of my soul is subject to me. In fact, Jesus said he gave His disciples the keys to the Kingdom, and we're included! We are ambassadors representing Him as the light and life on the earth. Everyday we get to execute the realities of the Kingdom here on earth in our classrooms, at our schools, in our communities! As many know teaching public school in Southern California isn't the easiest when it comes to being a light for Christ in the schools, but kindergarten teacher Andrea Brannam wasn't called into education because it was her career of choice. With the help of wise mentors she finds herself in a strategic place partnering with God to bring His Kingdom as a bearer of His Good News in the world of education! She's learned her teacher faith rights through partnership with Christian Educators , has developed a community of intercessors-- teachers and Mom's in Prayer-- to press forward with the plans God's laid on her heart over the years for her different schools. And one of those nudges that just hasn't gone away has been launching and fostering Good News Club , an after school student club that introduces children to Jesus through curriculum provided by Child Evangelism Fellowship . Make Time to Pursue God & His Presence because we release whatever we carry. 2. Invite God to host His Presence on Your Campus. 3. Envision Your Staff & Students as God Does so that you can pray more accurately. Breakthrough happens when we're not impressed with our problems; instead ask the Lord, "What's going to come out of this?" 4. Start Praying-- over your day, lessons plans, meetings, and throughout the day. 5. Cultivate a spirit of Thanksgiving! Thank God for what He's done and what He will do. Be amazed at what God has done and know your best testimonies will come out of the fire. Hold onto the promises of God and His goodness and get ready because God loves to "fall" on your willing heart! He's ready to move in and through you at school. Be encouraged to grab hold of these testimonies and dream with God about what's possible for your classroom, your school, and your district! All things are possible for he who believes (Mark 9:23) and the prayer of the righteous avails much (James 5:16)! Sky's the limit when it comes into relying on Jesus as your power supply, wisdom, creativity, and breakthrough. Just like April's school, you could even pray that any toxicity in your school environment would leave by praying over the hallways, classrooms, and even the copy machine! God is always at work and He's looking forward to revealing His heart to those who are willing to steward His presence and His name. Fearing God is best kind of fear to walk in each day instead of the letting the fear of man rule out the possibilities of our God to have His way in our schools. April Reuter tried to step away from teaching 12 years in... to do more "official" work for the Kingdom, but God called her back into full time teaching and gave her new lenses for seeing herself as a Teacher on Mission partnered with God as her power supply. With a huge heart to see breakthrough in her city through the power of prayer, April is now an overseer of the churches in her area, hosts an event of prayer for her city, and regularly encourages churches to support teachers in their strategic placement to bring the Kingdom however friend Holy Spirit leads. She has seen God break out through children worshiping, praying for one another, and through after school Bible Club... now dubbed Freedom Club! And don't mistake that this is a perfect school or a perfect classroom. April admits that she usually gets the hardest students, but God keeps surprising her with how He moves when she partners with Him through seeking Him first, dedicating her school to His presence, and being obedient to His leading!🙌🏻🙌🏻 My prayer is that this first half of April's testimony would supercharge your faith to dream with God about what's possible in your school as you yield to the voice and nudges of God!
