The Meaning of Pentecost (Pentecost Sunday)
Manage episode 331681563 series 2412302
Pastor Micah took time this week to discuss the meaning of Pentecost as we observed Pentecost Sunday. The Day of Pentecost is a historic event that took place as God poured the Holy Spirit upon the Early Church to empower, equip, and enable us to reach the world for Christ! Pastor Micah looked at the connection between the Passover and Pentecost Festivals. We know that the Holy Spirit has been actively involved since the Creation story back in Genesis chapter 1. The Prophet Joel prophesied about the Holy Spirit coming hundreds of years before the day of Pentecost occurred. The initial out pouring of the Holy Spirit was marked by 3 symbolic phenomena:
- There was the sound of a violent rushing wind that filled the house.
- The appearance of tongues of fire resting on each person in the room.
- Not meant to encourage believers to have an ecstatic for their own edification.
Bottom Line: God’s purpose at Pentecost was to equip His church with the power of the Holy Spirit so that we would be His witnesses to all the nations, resulting in His eternal glory. (Habakkuk 2:14)
