In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Louise Hall (@Louise_hall_art) Fresh out of university, Louise created her first exhibition away from her fellow students. Gary met Louise via ART IN THE AGE OF NOW at Fulham Town Hall, where Louise was representing the Kensington and Chelsea art Week, that starts on 24th June.

"As a UK based multidisciplinary artist that focuses on performance, printmaking and sculpture. To explore conversations on postcolonial ideas around the Black British experience in the UK and the diaspora. Investigating through materiality of fabric and language to investigate social issues within the UK and the BAME experience. Challenging concerns of colonial narrative and history, and the impact within education and many other aspects of society. The use of non-violent imagery within the works to represent violent traumatic events with ties to plantations, colonial history and transatlantic slave trade."

Louise has created an extremely powerful installation called '13 Dead, Nothing Said' which focuses on a house-fire in South East London, which took the lives of 13 black teenagers/young adults, thought [by a majority of the victim's families] to be a racially motivated arson attack.. After two separate inquests, the cause of the fire was recorded as an 'open verdict'.

CAUTION: This episode deals traumatic events, listener caution is advised.
