#105: Jamie Thomas - Skateboarding Icon
Manage episode 311196415 series 3088852
"Connection is the opposite of addiction. Opening myself up to real connection with men, because as men, we're supposed to appear strong. The strength is in the vulnerability. The most courageous thing we can do is be vulnerable because we don't know what the outcome is going to be."
"If you can get help and not go through it alone, and you find some level of connection in that, it can be such a beautiful thing. I had to peel away the layers of the onion and look at all that pain."
"Every career has a sunset. I was desperate for that acknowledgement grasping at straws trying to feel worthy. It wasn't until most of my inter-personal relationships began failing that I had to take a look in the mirror. If you meet 3 a-holes in a day, chances are you're the a-hole. I had to look at myself in the mirror and say, 'hey buddy you're the a-hole.'" -Jamie Thomas
One of my favorite podcasts to record. Jamie's vulnerability, authenticity, honesty, and willingness to share about his journey from skateboarding icon to the rooms of recovery will no doubt inspire hope for others from all walks of life. Regardless what personal challenge you're going through, Jamie's story gives all of us permission to ask for help and create connection with others.
