#91: Darren Waller - Football, Recovery, & Mindfulness
Manage episode 311196429 series 3088852
“I feel like my life has more meaning and purpose in it when I show people my past, and own it, instead of shoving it under the rug. Giving thanks and gratitude, that’s what it’s all about, that’s what I appreciate most today. It’s not money, it’s not a job title, or possessions, or anything like that.” –Darren Waller
Amazing new podcast episode today with All-Pro tight end for the Las Vegas Raiders and one of the best football players in the NFL, Darren Waller.
I had the pleasure of spending 5 days with Darren last week and so impressed with the man he has become. His actions match his words. He is being the change he wants to see in the world. He has turned his mess into his Message, his test has become his Testimony. He is using his platform for so much good in the world inspiring others, giving permission for us to be vulnerable, and creating conversations that are deep and meaningful and critical in today’s society.
Great football player. Even better human being. My Spiritual & Sober brother!
In this episode, we also discuss:
- Darren’s rock-bottom in August 2017 when he overdosed on prescription pills laced with fentanyl
- Darren’s recovery, faith in God, and spiritual awakening through the 12-step program
- Making $11/hr stocking shelves at Sprout’s and lessons he learned
- Impact of having a coach to level-up spiritually and mentally and how those skills separate him from other players
