Perfection Vs Delusion

Perfectionism in itself is a delusion and clinging. Perfectionists believe their inner expectations to be real, which is an obsession that causes one to suffer. No situation in this world is controlled by our random wishes. There are only combinations of causes and conditions. If we can observe this nature, we will be relieved, at ease and in peace.

Work hard on the seeds we plant, and behappy with the harvest we reap. Seeking perfection focuses only on the harvest. However, all things are but the result of causes and conditions, which wecannot c ompletely control. Hence, demanding a good result leads to suffering.Spare no efforts in what we can do, and let go of the demand for everything tobe of utmost satisfaction.

What others think is their business, while what we do is ours. There are things that cannot be perfect in the moment no matter how hard we try. We cannot control the opinion of others or the environment, but there is no need to control these. The important thing is that we understand what our actions mean to us, others and the future.

Accept our imperfect selves. This doesn’t mean that we give up on ourselves, like the way we are and there is no need for change. Instead, it means understanding that we are of “empty nature” and can be changed by conditions. Even we have drawbacks now, it does not mean that it will stay like this forever. If we are not good enough now, it is because we didn’t work hard enough in the past or have done something wrong. Thus, with efforts to improve, we will become better and better. Such is true confidence, not seeking the external, nor clinging to delusions.


完美与妄想

完美主义心态本身就是一种妄想与执着。完美主义者,是把自己内心的期待当真了,让自己痛苦的就是这个执念。这个世界上没有随心所欲的境界,只有一堆因与缘的组合,如果我们能观照到这个本质,内心就会坦然、淡然、安然。

因上努力,果上随缘。追求完美是在果上求,但任何事情都是众缘和合的结果,我们无法完全主导,苛求的结果就是痛苦。在自己能够做到的地方尽百分之百的努力,不要执著一切都称心如意。

他人怎么想是他的事,我怎么做是我的事。一些事情,无论我们怎么努力,当下的结果都不一定会完美,我们控制不了他人的想法,也控制不了外境,但本来也无需去要求这些,重要的是,我们知道这样做对自己、对他人、对未来的意义。

接纳不完美的自己,并非是说,自己就这样了,我喜欢这样的自己,不用再改变了。而是要认识自己是“缘起性空”的,现在有不足,并不代表以后会永远这样。现在不够好是因为过去努力得不够,或者有做错的地方,只要加以改善,就会变得越来越好。这是真正的“自信”,不向外求,不执妄想。
