She warns that such denials and related fantasies about Donald Trump and his fascist movement somehow just “disappearing” or “going away” are a function of naivete and childish thinking rooted in fear, immaturity, and not reality.

Mary Trump also details how white privilege and denial and trauma have all come together in this moment to prevent an effective response to Trumpism, the Jim Crow Republicans, and American fascism more generally.

She warns that yes, Donald Trump and his followers do indeed want to physically hurt (and worse) those Americans and others they identify as the enemy.
