Rowan Zeoli and Caeylin Ellis of the independent tabletop gaming news site Rascal join Jordan to chat about the founding of the site, taking games journalism seriously, and the future of gaming. Rascal News was founded a year ago by 3 tabletop journalists who had worked for Polygon, Dicebreaker, Gizmodo, and I09. As those organisations have been shuttering their tabletop news coverage and firing professional journalists Rascal has sought to create an online space that is tackling major news stories across the tabletop industry. From the major business moves of massive companies like Hasbro Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop to the smaller scale stories like union workers striking at Vallejo paints, and plenty of stuff in between, Rascal is looking to become a bastion of independent, honest journalism. In the 1980s Bryan Ansell took over Games Workshop and reshaped it into a brand new company. Paul Cockburn joined Games Workshop from TSR UK having worked on Imagine Magazine and supplements for Dungeons & Dragons. During his time at GW Paul oversaw the relocation of White Dwarf from London to Nottingham and its evolution into a dedicated Warhammer magazine. He also helped to launch Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and worked on an early plan for Games Workshop fiction novels that could have seen Terry Pratchett tackle the Old World! #Warhammer #WarhammerFantasyRoleplay #WFRP #WhiteDwarf #RPG #GamesWorkshop _____________________________ Support My Work: DOWNLOAD MY FANTASY BATTLE SCENARIO DEAD KING WENCESLAS: https://jordansorcery.itch.io/dead-king-wenceslas ELEMENT GAMES AFFILIATE LINK: https://elementgames.co.uk/?d=11216 PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/jordansorcery KO-FI: https://ko-fi.com/jordansorcery DISCORD: https://discord.gg/vtjKzTGevD INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/jordansorcery/ BLUESKY: https://bsky.app/profile/jordansorcery.bsky.social WEBSITE: https://jordansorcery.com/ _____________________________ References, Sources, and Links: [My History of GW Books] https://youtu.be/TtLvM2wCa9w _____________________________ Art, Music, and Copyright: Images used belong to their respective copyright owners Jordan Sorcery Theme by Joylin Music Jordan Sorcery Heraldry by Becka Moor Jordan Sorcery Heraldry and Theme copyright @jordansorcery Support the show…

There have been many Games Workshop games that just didn’t make it past the development stage - from Necromunda on a corrupted Eldar Craft World, to a Dr Who time travelling board game, to the fall of the Empire and the corruption of the Warhammer world by Tamurkhan. Rick Priestley, creator of Warhammer and 40k and the design team lead at Games Workshop for many years, joins Jordan Sorcery to explore the history that didn’t happen - some of the many Games Workshop projects that were started but only ever released in rumours, tidbits, hushed whispers, or in some cases not at all. From more collaborations with MB Games after the success of HeroQuest, to new takes on historical wargaming with Perry miniatures, the early iteration of Battlefleet Gothic to a new Mad Max-style IP on the floor of dried out oceans! _____________________________ [ ELEMENT GAMES AFFILIATE LINK ] https://elementgames.co.uk/?d=11216 [ PATREON ] https://www.patreon.com/jordansorcery [ KO-FI ] https://ko-fi.com/jordansorcery [ YOUTUBE CHANNELS ] History & Editorial: https://youtube.com/ @jordansorcery Longform Conversation: https://youtube.com/ @JordanSorceryPods [ WEBSITE ] https://jordansorcery.com/ #Warhammer #40k #Warhammer40000 #Necromunda #GamesWorkshop #tabletop #boardgames #RPG #wargames _____________________________ References, Sources, and Links: [Wombat Wargames] https://wombatwargames.com/ [Rick Priestley's Space Battles: A Spacefarers Guide Blog] https://spacebattlesaspacefarersguide.blogspot.com/ _____________________________ Art, Music, and Copyright: Images used belong to their respective copyright owners Jordan Sorcery Theme by Joylin Music Jordan Sorcery Heraldry by Becka Moor Support the show…

John Peake co-founded Games Workshop in 1975 with his school- and flat-mates Steve Jackson and Sir Ian Livingstone. Together they would sell John’s handmade wooden games, publish Owl & Weasel fanzine, and battle to keep the company afloat in its first year. Everything culminated in the first ever Games Day, followed shortly thereafter by John’s decision to leave the company as it pivoted towards Dungeons & Dragons and the emerging roleplaying boom. This is John’s own account of the events that led to the founding of Games Workshop - a voice that has long been missing from the official record of events. NOTE: At the 07:15 mark John mistakenly refers to the date as August '74, this should in fact be August '72. _____________________________ [ ELEMENT GAMES AFFILIATE LINK ] https://elementgames.co.uk/?d=11216 [ PATREON ] https://www.patreon.com/jordansorcery [ KO-FI ] https://ko-fi.com/jordansorcery [ YOUTUBE CHANNELS ] History & Editorial: https://youtube.com/ @jordansorcery Longform Conversation: https://youtube.com/ @JordanSorceryPods [ WEBSITE ] https://jordansorcery.com/ #GamesWorkshop #tabletop #boardgames #RPG #wargames _____________________________ Art, Music, and Copyright: Images used belong to their respective copyright owners Jordan Sorcery Theme by Joylin Music Jordan Sorcery Heraldry by Becka Moor Jordan Sorcery Heraldry and Theme copyright @jordansorcery Support the show…

Author and former Games Workshop board member Peter Darvill-Evans in conversation with Jordan Sorcery. Games Workshop and White Dwarf have a long history dating back to days before Warhammer Fantasy even existed. Under the tenure of co-founders Steve Jackson and Sir Ian Livingstone GW was the European importer of the new roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons, the UK publisher of multiple RPGs from companies like Chaosium, and the retailer for all manner of tabletop games and distractions. By the mid-80s the founders would leave to concentrate on gamebook adventures for Fighting Fantasy, whilst a boardroom battle determined the order of succession and the shift for Games Workshop from selling everyone’s games, to focusing on their own creations manufactured in Nottingham. My guest today joined Games Workshop in those early days, working in the first retail store before managing the entire retail operation. He contributed to White Dwarf, played in Ian & Steve’s band, wrote some Fighting Fantasy adventures of his own, created the Dr Who RPG and published many Dr Who books, and he was even a member of the board during that stressful succession.
