**Misfits, Covid has reared its ugly head over here at Horrorwood HQ. While Kate sleeps for the next four days straight, enjoy this episode from last year's holiday season.**

CW: This episode discusses child abuse, domestic abuse and sexual assault.

You probably weren't expecting a content warning on an episode about 'Home Alone', but this is Horrorwood, remember? The film might be a holiday treasure, but behind the scenes things weren't so jolly. The cast of the Christmas classic seemed to have it all: Arrests? Check. Drug addiction? Check. A murder-for-hire plot? Yep, that too. Get cozy, ya filthy misfits, we're diving deep.

*Before we get to the episode, BIG news! We're nominated for an Ambie award for Best Indie Podcast Hosts! We're so excited!!* Okay, now down to business. Gary DeVore was many things: screenwriter...ladies' man...missing... Born and raised in LA with a career in the entertainment industry, Gary had plenty of Hollywood friends he could count on. What he probably didn't count on was that those same friends would one day turn into a search party to find him. **As we mentioned last week we are rerunning this episode from 2022. If you missed our Case Update from Wednesday, one of the men involved - David Pearce - has been found guilty of murder. Christy Lee Giles and her friend Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola were two amazing twenty-somethings that had everything going for them. Christy, a successful model, loved animals, soccer and her husband, Jan. Marcela was a talented architect and designer who had just moved from Mexico to Los Angeles after accepting a new job. She was really close with her family and shared Christy's love of animals. The two women had their whole lives ahead of them...until during a girls' night out they unfortunately encountered three shit stains by the names of David Pearce, Brandt Osborn and Michael Ansbach. This one is a rough one, Misfits. Episode Sources: People.com Deadline.com The U.S. Sun Los Angeles Times The Wrap New York Post Follow us! *If you'd like to bypass our chatter in the beginning skip to around 6:30. In the early part of the 20th century Hollywood studios weren't too concerned with minor details like "safety" or "animal rights." It was all about the bottom line. Unfortunately this put countless humans and animals in harm's way, and on the set of the 1941 film "They Died with Their Boots On" (the irony of that title is not lost on us) a total of three men lost their lives. Honestly, we're surprised it wasn't more. Step into the mesmerizing world of the Keith-Albee Theatre in Huntington, West Virginia, a 1928 vaudeville palace turned cultural icon with a rich history—and a chilling reputation. From hosting entertainment legends to whispers of ghostly figures like the Lady in Red, this stunning landmark blurs the line between the past and the paranormal. **If you are looking for ways to help the LA fire victims, here are a few reputable sources providing aid: Mutual Aid L.A. Network (Google spreadsheet with info on shelters, volunteer and donation opportunities) World Central Kitchen (providing meals for those in need) Save the Children (specifically working to meet the needs of children and families) This is by no means a complete list. We encourage you to do your research and help if you can. An affair with a *technically* married celebrity, an illegitimate child, a barroom brawl...all things that would define the life - and death - of dancer Bessie Poole. But what really happened at the Chez Florence nightclub on October 6, 1928? Was she murdered? Was it an accident? Or did she die from natural causes? Hard to say, since some witnesses are lying, some can't be found, and some end up changing their stories. On Thanksgiving Day in 1923, 24-year-old actress Martha Mansfield was working on her latest film, a Civil War drama. The media predicted her role as the leading lady would catapult her into the next level of stardom. Tragically, she never got to finish her scenes that day, and within 24 hours Martha was dead. *Hey Misfits, we're pretty chatty at the top of this episode so if you'd prefer to get right to the story then skip ahead to about 10:15. Adam Hecht is the son of wealthy Hollywood producer Harold Hecht. Adam’s life took a strange turn after befriending a man from L.A.’s unhoused community. What began as an act of compassion led Adam down an unexpected path, leaving behind questions, eerie encounters, and theories that don’t quite add up. Was it a search for meaning, a brush with danger, or something far darker? Join us as we dive into a story of privilege, mysticism, and a vanishing that still haunts Beverly Hills.
