If we look at the New Testament, even Jesus himself–the son of God–needed God’s Word as he battled temptation. As Satan confronted Jesus in Matthew 4, Jesus parried his assaults with the simple response: “It is written.” Here, Jesus is modeling for his disciples the proper response to temptation, using Scripture to resist the snares of the evil one. If Jesus needed Scripture to end the temptations of Satan, how much more do we need God’s Word?
