FATHER’S DAY Pastor Manolo Avila Sunday June 16, 2024 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Ephesians 6:2-3 (ESV) SEVEN QUALITIES OF A BIBLICAL FATHER 1. A Biblical Father Is A Spiritual Leader “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”Deuteronomy 6:4–9 2. A Biblical Father Is A Loving Husband “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church.” Ephesians 5:25-29 3. A Biblical Father Is An Encourager “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 4. A Biblical Father Is A Role Model “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4 “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.” Colossians 4:5 5. A Biblical Father Is A Dreamer “Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.” Psalms 127:3-5 6.
