On this week’s session of The Bird & The Bear … Our hosts, Sammy Ray and Daryl Lazer, recap the last four sessions they released in honor of Black History Month, talk interracial relationship with the help of F.D Signifiers video, “SWIRLCONOMICS (The truth about black people and interracial relationships), then they close out the show with some thoughts on Kanye West’s newest album … Shoutout to these YouTube creators for helping add context to the Kanye conversation … “unreviewable l” (theneedledrop), “The Fantano Vultures Review” (ShawnCeeLIVE), “When you can’t separate the art from the artist” (F.D Signifier) … Let’s sort through it together!

(0:00) - Intro into the Black History Month recap starting with Session 75’s discussion on cultural appropriation and Session 76’s discussion on black representation in Anime - “We should call it, ‘The Bird Bear Black Flash.’”

(13:27) - Daryl explains how he feels about using the phrase “people of color” and the recap continues with Session 77’s discussion about “Uncle Toms” and minstrel shows - “So, saying that stereotypes of people of color are damaging, while true, does not communicate the veracity with which white America has destroyed the image of black Americans…”

(22:43) - Recap of Session 78’s discussion about the Deep South of Mississippi and Sammy shares his perspective on being a white man speaking about black issues - “Which is understanding the appropriation points, how to avoid appropriation, and how you as a white person who feels like and wants to be an ally can step in motion with that.”

(31:02) - The discussion on F.D Signifier’s video “SWIRLCONOMICS,” begins with Daryl sharing the experiences both he and his parents have had with interracial relationships - “I was in relationships with people where because my blackness wasn’t important, I never felt like an accessory … But when I started to make my blackness important, I started to deal with women that wanted to use me as an accessory.”

(45:59) - Daryl pushes back on the idea of “unconditional” black love and Sammy explains why he’s never been in a interracial relationship - “White people used to take away my blackness and I had to stop my friends from taking away my blackness … And now, if I don’t just blindly support a black business, I’m also not black?”

(56:45) - The problem with Dr. Umar and anti race mixing philosophies - “I don’t want just black people to love black people … I want black people to be loved because being loved is what starts black love in the first place.”

(1:09:18) - The “SWIRLCONOMICS” discussion wraps up with commentary on the way white people fetishize black people and why we shouldn’t let our personal ideas of beauty be manipulated - “The fettuccine of white people knows no bounds.”

(1:26:09) - The show closes out with a discussion about Kanye West’s new album and why you can no longer separate the are from the artist - “I’m praying on this podcast, live and on air … God, please save Kanye from that antisemitic bulls**t.”
