015 Hiring Your Husband? How to Work With Family Successfully
Manage episode 322189728 series 3300382
If there’s one thing I understand, it’s family business. Having grown up in a family business, starting my own and marrying into one, I know the ins and outs of work-life blend. Today I want to talk about how to work with family members successfully.
It’s so natural and quite common to want to hire your other half, retire your husband or bring on board someone who is close to you. You think it will be easy because you already know the person really well. You want their company and you feel like it will be a mutually beneficial arrangement, but let me show you how to ensure it’s a smooth transition.
Things to Note:
- You might not give them boundaries like you would with a typical new hire and you might not train them the same way.
- The risk of damaging the personal relationship is high
- Make sure you ask yourself, “Are they really a good fit for the role I need to fill?”
- You may find you’ve overestimated their understanding of your business.
- You’ll need to implement some boundaries, so that your work relationship and your personal relationship don’t completely overlap.
- All-encompassing challenges: Time and Money. Think it over.
Are you thinking of hiring a family member? There are so many positives if the fit is right. I’d love to hear about your situation.
