#200 An existential airplane moment

Have you ever come into a moment that you knew would transform your life? I mean not just a little, but a lot. One of the most transforming moments in my life happened whiling sitting on the pot at the Denver International Airport!

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day! This is message #200 and I am Aaron Havens.

No. For real. My life forever changed while taking a …… in stall number 3 at the Denver International Airport some 17-18 years ago. May I explain?… You’re like, Please DO!!! Ok. So the bathroom break began like every bathroom break. Not too eventful, which is a good thing right! As I was sitting there though, I looked on top of the toilet paper dispenser and noticed a business card. It was all white with 4 words and a phone number. Simple card. It read James Donaldson, Private Investigator, and then his number. Thats it. The image of that simple card was burnt into my mind. An hour later, as my plane took off into the air I was nearing an existential moment. A huge moment. I thought. Two Words. That’s it. That described everything “James” was about. That wrapped him up in a tight descriptive package. I wonder what would describe me like that.

So I pulled out a piece a paper and started down what would be about a 3 month project. Two words. Words that described what I’ve done, who I am, and where I want to go or be or do. My list grew. What two words would describe me. Then I started reaching out to those closest to me. Asking them to describe me. The word list grew and grew and grew. Until, after much debate, and honestly nights of tossing and turning, prayer and considering, I drilled my essence down to two words. Any guesses?…. Growth Instigator. Thats’ right. My business card from that day forward would read Aaron Havens… Growth Instigator. I like to instigate growth in the nouns of life… People, Places, Things.

So I ask. What would be on your business card? Maybe a journey of considering and asking would be a helpful one to begin. What would wrap up who you are, what you’ve done, experienced, learned into a tiny two words that would describe you!
