ludicrous : 「馬鹿げた」と言う意味ですが、実は「馬鹿げた」と言う表現はたくさんあります。よく比較されるのが、ridiculous と absurd。absurd は呆れかえるほど「馬鹿げた」と感じる時によく登場しますが、ridiculous と ludicrous は驚きを隠せない感じが含まれていますので、予想に反して「滑稽」だったり、良くも悪くも「狂ってる」と感じる時に登場することが多いです。そして ridiculous の方が滑稽さも強く、頻繁に使われるのに対して、ludicrous は同じニュアンスではあるものの、少し丁寧、上品、フォーマルな印象が加わります。
