These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For
Manage episode 418257345 series 3574193
There are a lot of Executive Coaches out there. Some say that the market is saturated, but they're wrong. The simple fact of the matter is that there are not enough extraordinary coaches in practice today. To be an effective business coach, you must have real-world experience. They don’t teach the day-to-day of the workplace in school. You have to have been there and done that to have the insights and relatable examples.
In terms of coaches, an executive coach should have prior experience working at a high level in a corporation or as a successful entrepreneur for a significant period. They should have had direct-line responsibilities and bottom-line accountability, with a considerable number of employees reporting to them in various scenarios. In addition, they should have a coaching certification showing that they have put in the time to learn how to coach. Only coaches with this kind of experience can truly understand the situation you are facing and provide effective guidance.
Yes, there are a lot of folks hanging out the shingle to be a coach, but who do you want to guide you, and your organization to success? To coin another catchphrase, "Choose Wisely."
Rich and Maikel discuss the relevance of executive coaching in this episode of Mainline Executive Coaching ACT.
