From there he relocated to San Francisco and joined the label “Om Records”. In 2003 he had his musical breakthrough with the release of his debut album titled “It’s You, It’s Me”. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Safri Duo”. “Safri Duo” formed in 1977; their initial focus was on classical music. Later their style evolved with the blend of electronica and tribal. In 2000 they gained mainstream success with their release of “The Bongo Song”. Take a listen to it here. “The Bongo Song” was featured in the 2000 Summer Olympics. The success of this song came from the fusion of tribal drums and trance. This caught the attention of Club DJs and even media like MTV Europe because no one ever heard the mixing of percussions and trance before “Safri Duo”. He was scheduled to perform at the Dreamstate Festivals in Sydney and Melbourne. Illan has admitted that “the music industry and touring is demanding on his mental and physical health”. In other news David Guetta recently announced his partnership with Lyre’s a leading non-alcoholic spirits brand. According to Guetta he is looking to change the perception people have about alcohol-free drinking. That’s it for music news,
