They were a match made from hell, a fatal attraction. The combination of this dynamic duo would prove to be a fatal union of the depraved, atrocious, horrendous, egregious, and everything attached to fatality. Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were said by all accounts to be the perfect couple. Karla found in Paul an older man, economic prospects, wealthy, and above all attractive. Karla and Paul had a chance meeting at a convention she attended. Paul was also in attendance at the convention. Paul laid eyes on Karla who was equally attractive. She was blond-haired, had blue eyes, and described her as having a resemblance to Barbie. Paul laid eyes on Karla and approached her. The two would be the perfect dynamic duo and the epitome of destruction. Karla and Paul committed the most atrocious acts, leaving in their wake dead bodies and videotapes of their deceptions. The City of Scarborough is being heavily targeted with sexual assaults. Police and the FBI can’t seem to catch this elusive serial rapist. The fear was that bodies would start to litter the city of Scarborough and rightfully so. The casualties this couple left behind in their wake included Karla’s very own younger sister. This peeping tom, serial rapist, and serial killer had a resume to satiate his sick appetite that was deprived and deviant. I unpacked the fairytale story to onlookers who didn’t know them would think this couple was made for each other. I also unpack the day these two say there I do’s two things are unfolding. The discovery of the body of Leslie Mahaffey and the murder of her sister 6 months prior to her wedding to Paul. This should not be a celebration so soon when your younger sister was murdered but the family was in the dark the entire time until video tapes go from an accidental death to cold blooded murder.
