Certified Health Coach, Elizabeth Sherman, talked to me recently about our distorted relationship with food that, she believes, we don’t recognise until we hit midlife.
We all know we can’t eat and exercise the same way as we did at 20 or 30. Once we understand how food and exercise makes us feel we can get away from the “calories in, calories out” mentality and actually start to become more healthy.
Elizabeth’s common sense approach to diet and exercise is a breath of fresh air. As is what she calls “self authority” - who decided what we should eat? Or how a middle aged woman should look? That women should be good cooks or that body hair is unfeminine?
What does feminism mean today? And does the “pursuit of happiness” prevent us from living in the moment and actually being happy? Do we need to let go of relentless self improvement?
I’d love to know your thoughts!

About this Podcast.
Like all transitions, midlife can be messy and sad and glorious all at once, leaving many midlife women feeling rather alone and somewhat invisible. But what does this transition we are experiencing lead to?

I'm Jo Blackwell, a photographer, author and coach for women who want more from their lives post 50 and I'm here to remind you that if we manage our health and embrace it, growing older can lead to one of the greatest periods of growth and transformation of our lives.

My aim is to help women step into a starring role in their own lives - whatever that means to you. The Midlife Movement was created to change minds about midlife and growing older, one story at a time. Because we only become invisible when when we stop seeing ourselves.
