Ep 46 - I Make Music For MYSELF
Manage episode 407380074 series 3560694
Think about the first time you got into music. And let's skip past the days of taking piano lessons because our parents' forced it upon us. Think about your gateway into music, the moments and experiences that made you realize that you were going to be hooked on music for the rest of your life. For me, the memory of that excitement of discovering one of my top loves in life is palpable every time I become nostalgic.
We get so caught up in the streaming numbers and tour organization and setting up studio time and money... It's important to remember that we didn't get into music for any of those reasons. If you chose music with aspirations of making a ton of money, then, sorry, but you're an idiot. It's one of the worst industries to get into if your hope is to make ANY significant amount of $$$.
We started making music for the sheer joy of the process of creating music, and that, in my opinion, is the only sustainable way to keep it going. The money, the fame, the success, all of that stuff probably isn't going to happen to the level of our dreams. And, if it does, it probably won't be quite as sweet as it is in our imaginiation. But we already know the joy of the creation process, and we know that we can continue to find that joy as we hone our craft, work alongside our fellow musicians, and, simply put, express ourselves.
