Ep 52 - It's Healthy To Take Breaks
Manage episode 407380068 series 3560694
Here's the thing folks: I tend to be an obsessive person. I find interest in something and then seem to be completely unable to turn my brain off of whatever that thing is. It can be video games, it can be movies, it can be a new type of food.... whatever it is, I latch on and become blindly obsessed for weeks. Music, at times, is my strongest obsession.
I'm not convinced that this is healthy. It certainly is not healthy to force this sort of obsession, especially when it detracts from relationships with friends and family. Balance is essential in a healthy life, and it is nearly impossible to find balance when we are so focused on one thing that we have built up in our minds.
Recently I have learned the very important lesson in taking breaks. I had to admit to myself that there are days in which I have zero interest in creating music. It's true about anything! No matter how much I love something or someone, I guarantee that I need time away from that person or thing once in a while. It's the key to my closest relationships and has certainly continued my interest in my favorite passion projects and hobbies. When I take a solid break away from one of my loves, my heart is almost always back in it 100% once the break is over.
It's okay to give yourself a break. Sometimes it's the secret ingredient that's missing that will allow you to reach your fullest potential.
