In this episode of the No Harm Health and Safety Podcast, Marvin visits STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) at the Calgary International Airport to learn all about the services they provide to industry. At the STARS base, he talks to Nicole Segstro, their Industry Client Services Manager. The STARS Emergency Link Centre (ELC) was established in 1996 to meet the needs of industry working in remote locations. Today, services offered by the STARS ELC are used by the oil and gas industry, forestry, mining, recreation, and movie production. The STARS ELC monitors thousands of remote sites. In the event of an emergency, one call begins the coordination of a medical response. They also provide an easy-to-use smartphone app that enables individuals to request and receive 24/7 emergency assistance anywhere in Canada where a cell signal can be received. The STARS ECC can provide emergency call answer services, incident notification and call out services, and work alone monitoring. No Harm is the health and safety podcast for HSE professionals. We explore issues and initiatives to help you sharpen your professional skills and better understand emerging issues.
