Day 2 :: Listening and Weaving
Manage episode 309899573 series 3044801
A story is only as good as the one that listens to it.
Listening is a much overlooked and infinitely powerful skill.
Undoubtedly, if I’m in conversation with someone, and my yoga podcast comes up they ask, “but how can people do yoga if it’s just audio?”
The funny thing is, that I never asked myself that question.
It made absolute sense for me to do a audio podcast of a yoga class, as it’s the skill of listening that takes you deeper into the vast intelligence of your body and hearing what it has to say.
Without the willingness to listen, you can’t practice yoga.
And I’m going to ask YOU to do the same.
Yesterday you began the process of capturing 5 pieces of audio. You may or may not have had the opportunity to record your stuff.
That is completely ok.
BUT,
I will now ask you to listen.
1. I want you to listen to your recordings and if you haven’t recorded, I want you to read your pieces and listen to the words anyway - in your own head.
Here’s the key: you’ve got to get past YOURSELF.
And how in the world does one do THAT???
Listen and stop the judgment.
Listen and stop the mind chatter.
Listen and feel what is coming from your Foundation, from that underlying basis for everything that you do that is built from your core.
If what you hear in your work, doesn’t resonate, consider refining what you’ve put down.
NOTE: the word I use is resonate, which is very different from judgment.
“To resonate is to make, hear, or even understand a deep, full sound…Sound can resonate when broadcast through speakers, and so can an idea or feeling, when expressed articulately or with passion.”
▸ What are the words or phrases that pop out at you the most about your work?
▸ When you’re listening, does your body feel relaxed and receptive OR are you tightening up and getting all wound up?
▸ If you are tightening up, is that based on the fact that you feel vulnerable or is it because it doesn’t feel like your “truth?”
2. Make adjustments to your work depending what you experienced listening to your self, via your ears and via your body.
You may not make ANY changes at all. Cool beans. And if something really popped out at you that you need to add or take away, do it.Weaving your story together
I mentioned yesterday that I wanted these pieces of audio to be like notecards that can easily be moved around.
3. Since you’ve now spent some time with your work I want you to put them together in a sequential pattern that feels like you are telling a story.
EX:
Labels, Nov/Dec story, song, what you value, who you want to be in the world
OR
Who you want to be in the world, Labels, song, Nov/Dec story, what you value
OR
You can get all creative and weave the music throughout…
Think of molding what you’ve created into an audio piece that you get to have with you, in your pocket, whenever you need a little re-connection time.
4. Edit it all together
OMG. I totally just said that.
Yes. Edit it all together.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE TIME (or you have no clue how to do it) - send it to me.
Email me each of your pieces of audio and/or send it via WeTransfer. I will put it together for you. Make sure you give me instructions of how you want it all to fit together!
Let me know if you have any questions about the above.
Send me an email to elsie@yogeek.me with or without an audio note, send me audio feedback via SpeakPipe, or tag me in the Facebook Group! I’m here to help!
Don’t let the falling behind demons get a hold of you, most ESPECIALLY make your choose to not engage because it feels like too much.
If all you can do right now is READ and/or LISTEN to the audio or keep up with the podcast, then so be it. This is something you can step into, when you have time or when you feel ready.
The playground is always ready for you to play!
Now go create some digital magical fun!!!
