Your buddy loves to bench but is new to competing in powerlifting. He just signed up for his first Bench-only meet. He’s watched some meets and done some internet surfing and thinks that when athletes arch, they are cheating the range of motion and not using their real strength. He vows to not use an arch and just be strong… but in an oddly introspective moment, he asks for your opinion. What do you say?

You are a lifter who hates to squat - you think you have “bad hips” and you feel like it is your worst lift. Don’t assume it’s your hips! The source of the issue may actually be stemming from your feet - your ankles, or even your bar position. Work with a coach to determine the issue and embrace the squat!!!
