It is very important to prepare now. If you ship via USPS and you are only using weight to calculate your cost to ship you products, we recommend taking action now. It is very important to look at the changes with the USPS, and make changes.
For example, 3 lb package that measures 20x20x12” will now be charged at the 29 lb rate! If your website or eBay listings are set up to only charge shipping for a 3 lb package, and ship via USPS, you stand to take a large loss on shipping.
Length x width x height / 166 = Dimensional weight (Packages under 1 cubic foot will not be effected by this rule)
20x20x12 / 166 = 4800 / 166 = 28.195 = 29 lb package! USPS will bill you the actual weight or dimensional weight of the package, whichever is highest. This package could weigh 3 lbs, but you will be charged at the higher 29 lb rate.
Be sure to look at FedEx and UPS as they may be more economical on some packages.
