Episode 98, “Rich Men North of Richmond” is named after the title of a song written by Oliver Anthony, a TikTok musician from Virginia who recently went viral and is shaking up both the music industry and political landscape. What makes Mr. Anthony’s song so controversial? Simply put it is an example of artistic authenticity. This is the overarching theme of the episode, authenticity and how it manifests. We begin by listening to the song, so you can “hear for yourself” before the political firestorm surrounding Mr. Anthony and his music obscures our ability to listen objectively. From Oliver Anthony, we switch gears towards a seemingly unrelated subject area; aliens, the paranormal and skinwalker ranch. Thanks to the generosity of Shawn Ryan, we are able to take a look at a couple clips from the most recent episode of “The Shawn Ryan Show”, a podcast focused on honest conversation and speaking truth. Mr. Ryan interviews Brandon Fugal, an entrepreneur and businessman who is most known for being the current owner of the infamous “Skinwalker Ranch”. When listening to this this interview, before the making this episode I was struck with the authentic nature of Mr. Fugal’s testimony and found it to be an excellent example of authenticity in action. As a further demonstration of the process at work I share a personal story of seeing a UFO and experiencing paranormal activity, similar to the type described by Mr. Fugal in these clips.
