Can it get any more bleak than a British period drama about an underappreciated female historical figure? Turns out yes, yes it can if you add to that equation lesbianism and the British seaside. Ammonite is like the perfect storm of filmic gloominess fraught with awkwardness, greyness, the British weather and long dead creatures turned to stone. Sounds like a right ol’ laugh, huh?!
