Smitt E. Smitty & The Fezztones have something to say. And no matter where you are, you're gonna hear about it.
Led by the inimitable ringleader of the rambunctious Boston octet, Smitt E. Smitty was born and raised in Detroit, but ultimately became one of Boston rock's favorite sons. After moving to New England in 1985 with a fistful of the Motor City's own brand of grit, ambition and bands (The Blind, Zero Ambience, L-Seven), Smitty relocated to New England with Figures on a Beach, laying down a steady beat behind the kit through the electronic music band's Sire/Warner Records era. Through the '90s he toiled in Wax Trax's Chainsuck with lead singer songwriter Marydee Reynolds.
Now it's Smitt E. Smitty & The Fezztones time! And that time is all of the time!
After releasing Smitt E. Smitty's debut release in 2017, titled 'Just A Modern Guy', Smitty went back into the recording studio with Alec Rodriguez of New Alliance Audio, in Somerville, MA. Only this time with a full band, aptly named The Fezztones. Smitt E. Smitty & The Fezztones stretch the boundaries of genre and what you think rock and roll should sound like. It's a Smitty sonic cocktail crafted through Motown, British Invasion, garage rock, punk, glam, and anything else that wants to get in the van on the way to the gig.
“I am an ‘art school’ musician,” Smitty declares. “Not only have I pursued the visual arts side-by-side with my musical aspirations from day one, but I continue to do so. To that end, my creative vision is always changing and growing. Explore, experiment, and create. If I feel it, do it! One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Andy Warhol. He famously said, ‘Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.’ My creative vision for 2024? ‘Go man, GO!!!’
The singles are set for release in 2024, but the pieces have already permeated across the Boston music scene. It'll only take a few seconds of “Bye Bye Sunday Afternoon” to find out why this single is destined to be one of this spring and summer’s most memorable songs.
Stay tuned for more.
