Elaine Welteroth Knows She's More Than Enough
Manage episode 275024815 series 2791885
Elaine Welteroth began her career as a journalist, and she is an absolute trailblazer. Before working as an editor at Ebony magazine and Glamour magazine, Elaine became the first Black beauty director of Teen Vogue in 2012. In 2016, Elaine was promoted to Teen Vogue's editor-in-chief at the age of 29, becoming the youngest editor-in-chief in Conde Nast's history. She has since left her position at Teen Vogue, and someone even younger filled her role—proving that she has truly opened up doors for others.
At a young age, Elaine didn't know exactly what she wanted to be—she just knew she wanted to be great. In this interview, Elaine opens up to Cari about her belief at a young age that what made her different was a weakness—and it wasn't until later in life that she realized it was a strength. She also shares that not knowing exactly what she wanted to do led to greater opportunities. Elaine's brownprint is uplifting and sobering. Plus, she talks about how in her time of helplessness, the community came to her rescue. Her book, 'More Than Enough' is available where all good books are sold.
