Episode 7: August Election Update: Moran's $75 steak scandal , No Show candidates and more
Manage episode 432049781 series 3579715
Our 2024 August election is 19 days away, and we've got the latest on hot issues that have dropped this week. MIke Moran's lavish spending on travel, meals and alcohol starts us off - along with a rundown of the problems with PACE loans (Property Assessed Clean Energy loans). Moran heads up the Orlando special district for PACE, the Florida Pace Funding Agency. Under Moran's leadership Agency spending is up 2800%. Jon Mast, husband of County Commission candidate Teresa Mast, joined the PACE board in late 2023. What are the chances Teresa Mast will protect Sarasota County property owners from this troubling lending program? PACE loan payments are attached to a homeowners property tax bill, which means if you fall behind on your payments, a borrower can lose their home. Florida tax collectors are suing Florida PACE. It seems they don't like being used as bill collectors for a private lender. MIke Moran is running for tax collector.
We round out the show with discussion about candidates who are refusing to attending candidate forums - notably Teresa Mast and Neil Rainford (candidates for Sarasota County Commission), and finally we discuss Joe McClash's latest editorial in the Bradenton Times. McClash provides a great explanation for the corruption seen in the Manatee County Commission, developer influence on elections, and his prescription for change. Join us!
