The single most important thing that can cause you to be a terrible leader is your ability (or lack there of) to give proper #feedback. It's a hard concept for me, I love making people happy, not bringing them down. I am #optimistic and something about giving negative feedback doesn't feel right. It took time for me to step out of that mindset. The reality is that mindset is actually putting your team in a terrible situation. It is your job to give positive and negative feedback. How can someone fix the issues they are dealing with, if they don't even know what they are doing wrong...or even worse, they think they are doing a fantastic job? Simply put, they can't. You have put them in a situation where they could ended up nose to nose with HR for a Performance Improvement Plan, getting written up, or worse getting fired...and they are completely blindsided because we as their leader didn't want to hurt their feelings or upset them.
