The Mystery of The Leatherman's Cave - A New England Legends Podcast
Manage episode 438885431 series 3326232
Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger hike the woods of Watertown, Connecticut, searching for the site of one of the mysterious, Leatherman’s caves.
In 1883, a mysterious figure known only as "The Leather Man" began to appear with eerie regularity across 41 towns in Connecticut, tracing a 365-mile loop every 34 days. For six years, he haunted this trail, his arrival as predictable as the passage of time, until his death on March 20, 1889. First spotted in 1857, The Leather Man was once seen wandering as far north as Vermont and Canada. Yet, despite his unsettling presence, his true identity remains shrouded in mystery. No one knew his name, his past, or what drove him. He was defined by the relentless path he walked—a path that ultimately claimed his life. As towns expanded and roads overtook his trail, The Leather Man became a ghostly legend, a phantom lost to time, leaving only whispers of his existence in the shadows of history.
