Research links lack of sleep, even one hour less, to having less capacity to think about others, and this effect appears to be cumulative (i.e. one day of "catch up sleep" does not reset this effect). We are all aware sleep is important and yet many of us are unable to get enough of it. What does this mean for our current culture that rewards long hours and sacrificing our sleep for work? How can this help explain the self-gratification society we are currently seeing? How can we make changes when our circumstances don't allow us to make time for more sleep? Welcome to the land of no easy answers...
