324. Parenting Principles: How Do I Stop the Tattling
Manage episode 449921890 series 2838097
Welcome back to the kitchen table. It’s easy to step in when our kids tattle, ready to fix the problem and make things right. But what if our urge to solve everything is keeping them from learning a valuable skill—resolving conflict on their own?
Bethany used to jump in at the first sign of tattling, sorting out every disagreement between her kids. Instead, she began teaching them a biblical approach to conflict resolution, inspired by Matthew 18:15-17.
Now, when her kids come running to tattle, Bethany gently asks, “Have you talked to them about it?” She encourages them to address the person directly and seek a solution together before involving her. This simple shift has made a big impact and follows God’s call to be peacemakers.
By stepping back, Bethany is helping her kids develop the skills they need to navigate disagreements with patience and love.
