Former Dayton/Texas & Current Illinois WBB Associate Head Coach Calamity McEntire chats with us about a variety of topics - including knowing your role as an assistant coach, having a strategic plan for your next coaching job, and what she enjoys off the floor.
Coach McEntire highlights her early days of coaching as a student manager at Tennessee under Pat Summitt. She explains how near and dear the Lady Vol program still is to her & how she learned to teach the game from Coach Summitt.
As a person that has been in every role in a basketball program, Coach McEntire explains what it's like to GRIND in coaching and making yourself valuable in your role and being ELITE in everything you do!
Calamity got the chance to cross paths with Hall of Fame Men's Basketball Coach Lute Olson during her time at Arizona. She reflects on the impacts that, like Coach Summitt, she was blessed to be able to be around two of the absolute legends in coaching.
She talks about her development as an assistant while she was an assistant coach at Hawaii and how she is loving being closer to home in Dayton, Ohio working under coach Shauna Green.
As far as off the floor and away from basketball, Calamity comes from a family that loves music. Her sister is a songwriter in Nashville, her aunt Reba is the Queen of Country Music and her good friend Kelly Clarkson credits Calamity with co-authoring the song "Sober" with her. Calamity explains how this all went down all because of a phone call.
