Our lives, our gatherings, our world, in ways large and small, are now shaped by the climate crisis. What day-to-day habits are we cultivating to accompany one another in unexpected heartache, joy, and possibility? What spiritual practices within our Unitarian Universalist tradition can galvanize and sustain us—as individuals and communities—amidst joy and sorrow? Hear Guest Speaker Daniel Lawlor, Co-Director of UU Ministry for the Earth, consider spiritual habits that allow us to lament, slow down, and connect in times of climate crisis at UUCSR's service on October 10, 2021.
Daniel Lawlor (he/him) is excited to be the Co-Director for Fundraising and Communications with the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth. Drawing on his family's example of engaged, religious practice and community work in Rhode Island, Daniel is inspired by caring communities and honored to witness the joys and sorrows in our faith. Daniel and Yumi, his wife, call Brooklyn home. A former middle school teacher and development director, Daniel is a proud graduate of Boston University School of Theology and served as ministerial intern at First Church Boston 2019-2021.
Aly Tharp (she/her or they/them) is the Co-Director of the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE), manages the Association-wide Create Climate Justice initiative, and is a member of the UUA Organizing Strategy Team. Aly lives in Austin, TX, and is a member of the Wildflower UU Church. Aly is also an arts and cultural organizer and food activist, working in her free time as a core volunteer with the Festival Beach Food Forest (an edible and medicinal landscape on public parkland), and as Secretary of the Board for the Serefina Food Pantry. Aly is excited to join you this weekend, in preparation to join protests in DC next week as part of the People v Fossil Fuels Week of Action."
