When any of us go through a dry season, we get thirsty. In this world, when we go experience broken and hurtful things, our thirst for something that will heal and give life grows strong. We read things like an ideal nation in Deuteronomy and realize that we are thirsty for that sort of world: a world of kindness, trust, stability, growth, God-centered relationships, justice, and peace.
But then we turn to saltwater to quench that thirst and it only makes us sicker.
