#13 Wakeboarding, Events and Alt Education with Matt Crowhurst | What do they do?
Manage episode 284457832 series 2770079
Matt Crowhurst is a former professional wakeboarder who now hosts and commentates on live events in arena cross, equestrian and wakeboard events. We spoke about the challenge of working in live events during 2020 and into 2021 with Covid-19 restrictions.
Matt and Ben discussed Matt's initial water skiing, wakeboarding and journey to hosting a variety of live events. The chat took a detour to education as Ben and Matt went to school together and had a fairly traditional education but took very different routes following this.
If you are not familiar with Wakeboarding, check out this video that includes Matt in action. Matt also hosts The ArenaCross Tour events, where is is slightly less proficient as a rider.
Matt mentioned the book Raising Boys: Why Boys are Different – and How to Help Them Become Happy and Well-Balanced Men by Steve Biddulph.
Ben spoke about a school in The Netherlands called Agora. To understand more about the way this high school works a good place to start is this medium article about the school. This article includes the desk made from a car and the assessment system created by the students, Ben also mentioned.
Here are some more schools doing things differently:
Think Global School across the world
School 21 in UK
Ørestad College in Denmark
Matt talked about a summer camp called Camp Woodward towards the end of the episode. Check it out here.
