Henry Winter, Chief Football Writer for The Times, picks his most memorable matches
Manage episode 407436967 series 3560205
Host Carl Jones is joined by Chief Football Writer for The Times, author and broadcaster, Henry Winter, to share the matches he'd take with him to a desert island.
Recorded shortly after Henry's return from reporting on Manchester City's Champions League final victory, we reflect on his time in Istanbul, recollect his experience writing the match report for another famous Champions League final involving a Manchester side and find out which current England international he'd choose to attempt a rescue mission from the desert island.
We also chat about his time covering international football, his favourite World Cup and the 2016 biography of the England national side he wrote, Fifty Years of Hurt, and its manifesto for change within the English game. Did Gareth Southgate follow some of its advice to turn abject failure into relative recent success?
