It might feel normal, or like second nature, to shut down, dissociate, and otherwise leave the building when circumstances find us in a place of sensory overload. Those tools can certainly be of service, but when we want to be more present and embodied in our lives and relationships, we must call ourselves into the service of our bodies and grow our innate capacity to be with overwhelm.
