What if your mood struggles aren’t a “chemical imbalance,” but a nutrient imbalance? In this episode of The Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen sits down with functional nutrition therapist Laurie Hammer, founder of the Calm Mom Method, to explore how amino acid therapy can naturally support anxiety, depression, eating disorders, focus issues, and emotional regulation. Laurie shares her personal healing journey from bulimia and lifelong depression, and explains why so many women—especially moms—are unknowingly deficient in the raw materials the brain needs to make serotonin, dopamine, GABA, and endorphins. Together, they break down how targeted amino acids can bring fast relief, how to test your own neurotransmitter needs, and why rebuilding the brain’s chemistry through nutrients is often more effective than relying on medications alone. Dr. Jen and Laurie Hammer discuss amino acid therapy as a natural approach for anxiety, depression, and emotional instability. Learn how nutrient deficiencies impact neurotransmitters and how targeted amino acids can restore mood, focus, and calm. 🎧 Take Back My Brain with Laurie Hammer Explore brain health, healing, and whole-body wellness with Laurie Hammer: Listen on Spotify Listen on Apple Podcasts Listen on iHeart Radio PODCAST: Thank you for listening please subscribe and share! What if a simple, affordable blood test could reveal how well your cells are functioning—and how long you’re likely to live? In this episode of The Integrative Health Podcast, Dr. Jen sits down with Dr. Darren Schmidt, DC, founder of the Nutritional Healing Center of Ann Arbor, to explore the brand-new MVX Plus (Metabolic Vulnerability Index Plus) blood test and the overlooked nutrient that is foundational to human health: Vitamin B1 (Thiamine). They unpack what this test actually measures, why it’s incredibly predictive of longevity, and how it helps uncover the true root cause when patients feel stuck. Dr. Schmidt also shares how high-dose fat-soluble B1 saved his life—and why modern life is silently draining this essential vitamin. Dr. Jen interviews Dr. Darren Schmidt about MVX Plus, a new low-cost LabCorp blood test that measures cellular function and predicts longevity, and why Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is essential for mitochondrial health, nervous system repair, and chronic illness recovery. Welcome back to The Integrative Health Podcast ! In this episode, I’m joined by Joel Salatin—farmer, author, and speaker, famously known as “The Lunatic Farmer.” Joel describes himself as a Christian libertarian, environmentalist, and capitalist, and he’s one of the most provocative voices in the farming and food world. We explore Joel’s story of how his family rebuilt a worn-out farm in Virginia into the now-famous Polyface Farm, featured in The Omnivore’s Dilemma and Food Inc. Joel shares why he rejects the conventional industrial approach to agriculture, instead pioneering mobile and modular farming models that make it possible for new farmers to start with little debt. We dive into the health consequences of factory farming vs. pastured, stress-free animals, the truth about the “organic” label, and why transparency in farming matters more than certifications. Joel also discusses his vision for a “Food Emancipation Proclamation” that would free small farmers to create real, nourishing, convenient food without government overreach. This is an empowering, thought-provoking conversation for anyone who cares about where their food comes from, how it’s grown, and the future of farming. Welcome back to The Integrative Health Podcast! In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Neil Nathan, MD—physician, teacher, and author with over 50 years of experience helping patients with complex chronic illness. We dive deep into the importance of finding and treating the root causes of illness rather than just masking symptoms. Dr. Nathan shares why listening to a patient’s story is the most powerful diagnostic tool, and how conditions like mold toxicity, Lyme disease, and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) are often at the core of chronic health struggles. Dr. Nathan walks us through his staged treatment approach—starting with rebooting the limbic and vagal nervous systems, stabilizing mast cells, and then carefully addressing the underlying root cause. We also explore how COVID-19 can unmask hidden illness, why many patients feel unheard in conventional medicine, and how hope is the most powerful medicine of all. This is an eye-opening, compassionate conversation for anyone navigating chronic illness or supporting a loved one through it. PODCAST: Thank you for listening please subscribe and share! Dr. Jen Pfleghaar explains wellness credentials, exposes diploma mills, and reveals red flags to avoid deceptive practitioners in health and wellness. Welcome back to The Integrative Health Podcast! Today, we’re diving into something I get asked about all the time — how do you really know who to trust in the wellness world? There’s a lot of confusion around credentials and professional titles, and I want to help you cut through the noise. I’m breaking down what those common titles mean — from MDs and DOs to naturopaths, chiropractors, and health coaches. You’ll learn why it matters to understand their training, what they’re legally allowed to do, and how to spot when someone’s using the title “doctor” without full transparency. We’ll also talk about the red flags—like those shady online “diploma mills” that offer quick credentials with little oversight—and why mentorship and collaboration among health professionals are so important for your safety and well-being.
