SIMONE HAIGH ASM - Ambulance Tasmania Paramedic.

Simone talks to Matt about life as a paramedic in Tasmania, and describes the operational pressures faced by staff, both volunteer and permanent positions, and that common theme - the importance of our K9 companions.

Simone describes the impact of a close friend and colleagues suicide, and the relentless drive to address the issue which ultimately took her to have a chat with Senator Anne Urquhart which, with a lot of hard work behind the scenes, initiated the senate inquiry that lead to the release of the 2019 Senate Report - People behind 000: Mental health of our first responders; which is the focus of the Heart 2 Heart Walk.

Simone also talks about her frustrations with the lack of action taken in response to the report, and the great work going on in other countries that is yet to be followed by the Australian Government. Her positions in various committees and boards have given her a unique national view of the problems faced within Ambulance and the emergency services more broadly which continues to motivate her not to give up on making sure change is mate to the issues faced by her colleagues.
