How to Be an Advocate for Yourself and Others - with Hillary Caitlyn
Manage episode 372823967 series 2932253
Today is the UN's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and, in honor of that, Hillary Caitlin and I had a discussion about the issue and how to get involved. Hillary Caitlin is an actress, activist, content creator, sister, aunt, and friend. She has spent years working with survivors of human trafficking and, through that work, has developed a profound understanding of this injustice. It has also helped her understand the importance of advocating for yourself just as much as advocating for others. In this episode we discuss:
- How trafficking is an "invisible slavery"
- Releasing control and enjoying life's detours
- Pushing through lies TO protect your mind
- The importance of self check-ins
- Grief + the healing process
- How to provide trauma-informed care
- The nuances of empathy
- The correlation between accepting yourself + others
- Creating margin for the things that you want
- Managing overwhelm
