The Feeling of Guilt After Divorce

  • Feeling guilty about the causes of the marriage ending
    • infidelity
    • financial troubles
    • large-scale disagreements
    • leaving the marriage (even if it was extremely unhealthy)
    • Falling out of love (Checking out)

  • A marriage is a promise to love and cherish another human being forever. Guilt about the breakdown of the marriage: You may feel guilty about the fact that the marriage didn't work out.
    • marriage goes bad, guilt can stem from the fact that you feel you didn’t fulfill a promise.
    • wonder if there was anything more you could have done to save it
    • missed something along the way or you fell short on your own end
