It’s okay to not love aspects of motherhood.
Even the parts that you’re “supposed” to love – the baby years, for instance. Some of us had glorious experiences when our children were born. Others suffered postpartum depression, breastfeeding difficulties, or traumatic childbirths.
There’s pressure for us to say to one another, you’re going to miss it, or, you can’t get this time back, but I think it’s essential to talk about the light AND the shadows – which brings me to today’s guest, Meghan Scott Molin, a mother and author (whose career has also featured equestrianism, architecture, and photography!).
Here, we talk in detail about Meghan’s traumatic entrance into motherhood – which involved nearly losing her son – and how fixating on wanting a different journey did her no good. She had to accept that this was her reality in order to get where she is today – loving her career and her life as a mom.
In this episode you’ll hear about:

  • Meghan’s journey into motherhood, from her difficult pregnancy and terrifying ultrasound at 31 weeks to her son’s birth and survival
  • “Superwomaning” in motherhood – and the realization that she needed to be less obsessive and roll her partner in or else they’d crash and burn
  • Information vs. ignorance; wanting data and control for things to go our way vs. letting go of control and just letting things be
  • Seeing ourselves as shepherds to our kids, and realizing that our kids are not reflections of us – instead, we are guides on their journeys
  • Destigmatizing therapy and the importance of feeling safe to express to a partner the lack of joy in parenthood or the need for more help
  • Monetizing hobbies (pros and cons) and developing the entrepreneurial spirit as children (for Meghan, it involved a $15 stuffed cat)
