The psychologist Eric Erikson suggested that there are seven main stages of a full human life. Each stage has a challenge which prepares us for the stages that follow. If we meet the challenges, we develop in a healthy way and experience health and fulfillment. If we are unable to develop the virtues inherent at any stage, we can get stuck and fail to thrive or even stunt our development until we can redo the particular work we missed.
