Manage episode 356765682 series 3453766
Cortney Hicks knew early on in life that her love of Radio and TV would lead to a career in media and it was nothing short of focused determination that helped push her dreams into reality. She went from being “Lansing’s Home Girl” at Michigan State University, to becoming the first female jock in Chicago radio history to headline a morning show. Cortney has made appearances in the off Broadway production of The Color Purple, the Vagina Monologues, The Dr. Oz Show and had a principle role in the Discovery Channel series "Who The Bleep Did I Marry". Cortney was also a regular Pop Culture contributor for TV One, FOX 5, DC50, and WUSA9 while in D.C. Currently, Cortney can still be heard on the radio at KISS 103.1 in Central Texas and seen as the new Evening News Anchor on WFXG Fox54 in Augusta, GA. In our conversation for the Women’s Liberation Summit, we explored the following:
1) Your purpose is the thing that often doesn’t feel like work
2) Making your mark when you don’t quite fit with the cultural image of your career pursuits
3) Staying anchored in a male dominated industry long before the #metoo movement
4) Protecting your energy from comparing yourselves to others
5) Life is full of transitions on your liberation journey
6) So much more!
