Mary Cecilia Rogers, having previously worked at a cigar shop popular with literary society, had become known as The Beautiful Cigar Girl. She never arrived in Brooklyn, and was never seen alive again. Her story would become the inspiration for Edgar Allen Poe to write "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt".
