S2 E14: Strength Through Adversity with Araceli Esparza

In this episode, Candace talks to Araceli Esparza, an entrepreneur and business consultant who helps others build their social capital for justice. She is the founder of

Midwest Mujeres Collective. She helps other women grow their income and confidence. She got the inspiration to start her own business after hearing a speaker talk about being a social entrepreneur and how it could help people by doing what they love.

Araceli uses her lived experience as a survivor of domestic violence and felony wealth to help others in similar situations. She is also bilingual, which she feels is both a positive and negative attribute due to the way she has been judged for not always speaking correctly. She shares having been in therapy for 13 years and uses writing as a form of healing. After witnessing the resiliency of other Brown and Black social entrepreneurs, she became motivated to start her own organization.

For Araceli, success is about building relationships and working together to close the gap for everyone. Listen to Araceli share her poem and tune in to hear Candace and Araceli discuss how suicide rates have gone up, domestic violence has increased, and the lack of resources for people who need help.

Episode Highlights

19:20 - No matter what, continue my education, asking for help, and cultivating that confidence with my brand are all parts of my money mindset now and out of tragedies, flowers can grow.

41:36 - Get to know the folks in your community. Go volunteer at your local food pantry. Post on social media about Mental Health Awareness Day. You'd be surprised.

50:36 - That's a great way to start your own movement, by joining in these national walks, and you can just snap a picture of you with your teacher or what have you, and then there you go. Put your money behind it and asking other people or your friends and family to put their money behind it.
