Manage episode 403463829 series 3467787
Louise writes historical fiction, focussed around unheard voices or from unusual perspectives. Her internationally bestselling debut novel, People Like Us (Daughter of the Reich in the US edition) published 2020, was translated into 12 languages and is set in 1930’s Leipzig. Her second novel, The Hidden Child, about the eugenics movement in 1920’s England and America, was a Globe & Mail bestseller in Canada. Her latest novel, The London Bookshop Affair, is out now.
The London Bookshop Affair, published January 2024 in the US/Canada and February 2024 in the UK, is a dual timeline historical fiction novel, set mainly in 1962 London, but with a 1942 thread.
At the end of the recording, Louise and I talked a bit more about how tough it can be for writers, and she suggested a podcast, Write Off with Francesca Steel. It's a podcast that covers stories of writers who had a tough time, and Louise assures me that it's uplifting to hear big name authors talk of their struggles.
